Because liability is higher for rope used in climbing, rescue, or engineering work, quality control goes beyond a visual check: diameter is measured at multiple points per coil, breaking strength samples are pulled and tested to destruction, and sheath slippage is checked to confirm the outer braid doesn't shift independently of the core.
